276028 2004-09-27 05:52:00 Hi
Is there any way to colour my taskbar which is free, doesn't involve changing to XP Classic Theme, doesn't play around too much with the registry etc ?

After spending hours going through Belchfire's wallpapers, I have found a few which I have downloaded and will interchange now and again [to suit my moods]. Want to be able to colour the taskbar to suit as well but not alter the general Windows XP Theme.

Found Florescent Toadstools[normally blue] in a red colour which was neat, but when I tried changing it to a deep teal colour in Irfan View, it lost its sharpness, but at the same time using some filters I did end up with some interesting toadstool shapes.

Anyway any advice will be appreciated.
Regards Marg.

You can change colors of some things by Right clicking on the desktop and then click properties/Appearance/advanced.
From there you can change the colors for your desktop etc to what ever color you want by clicking on the color chart that will pop up or you can customize your own colors. Just click on the part of the desktop you want to change and then choose a color.

Have d/loaded uxtheme.dll pack, a patch which I will need to run OSXP1.02XP theme that I downloaded. Will try playing with the taskbar colours through that hopefully.
I already have a uxtheme.dll file in Windows, so hope this patch doesn't upset anything. Will put a copy of that .dll file somewhere else on the computer so if the original gets corrupted I can replace it. Not too confident that System Restore will work.

276031 2004-09-27 21:06:00 The uxtheme . dll file is usually used with some programs that change the theme/s . in XP .

Replacing XP's uxtheme . dll file will make it work with other themes .

The normal version of this file XP uses, it wont let u do anything else BUT uses XP's themes . The patcher out now for this file is 2 . 51 . I think it patches the original and might make a back-up copy of it, just in case .

Not to sure, havent patched / replaced the uxtheme . dll file on these PC's yet . This is for SP1 and SP2 of XP .

276032 2004-09-27 22:54:00 I am running style xp on my machine with the Mac OS emulation complete with animated dock.., an earlier free version from Cnet Downloads site. The version 2.0 costs.

Check out www.osxp.com for free icons , dock etc to get you started..

I couldn't get the theme.dll file to work after much much frustration and trying.. so I just bit the bullet and got stylexp which has the option to run without using much of the systems resources at all..

works well and looks like a Mac OS on my silver compaq..
