276082 2004-09-28 01:00:00 Sounds as your computer cannot talk to the modem try this:
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Modems > Diagnostics. You will see your usb modem listed next to a COM Port.
Highlight the COM port and click More Info.

276083 2004-09-28 01:11:00 Yeh, when i click on diagnostics it says cannot communicate with modem. It is installed at COM 1.

I called Dynalink but they didnt help, they just said to uninstall and then re-install, how useless.

276084 2004-09-28 01:19:00 uninstall the modem drivers and go check what usb drivers and usb chipset is being used. you may need to upgrade the usb driver. tweak'e (174)
276085 2004-09-28 01:22:00 Exit all programs and unplug all usb devices apart from the modem and try More Info again. Not sure with usb but maybe you could install it on another port. Rob99 (151)
276086 2004-09-28 01:22:00 I think thats what the prob is the driver is hopeless/useless!

I would take it back if under a year and get something else not USB.

I wouldn't pull my hair out over something like a modem lol

276087 2004-09-28 01:27:00 i said the modem is over a year old. MrBeef (342)
276088 2004-09-28 01:30:00 Well i still wouldnt use it even if it is over a year old. I would rather replace it altogether. If a modem creates this much hassle. Just to get it going.

IMO, it isnt worth it.

276089 2004-09-28 01:53:00 If the modem connects via USB it should not be installing itself as COM1:
COM1: is a serial RS232 port, and thats why you get the error, as the modem is not there.

It appears as if the drivers simply don't understand your hardware/motherboard.

The modem is actually quite a good modem, as its actually a hardware one. Most USB modems are software.

USB and Windows 98 is always a lottery though, and compatability is not guaranteed across all hardware platforms.
