| 275929 | 2004-09-27 07:27:00 | Back again! :D You said you also use SuSE - it this the Personal 9.1 Edition? It already has a firewall waiting to be configured. Go into the Control Centre > YaST2 modules > Security and Users > Firewall. Click on the Administrator Mode button and then follow the setup prompts. This Firewall is called SuSEfirewall2. |

| 275931 | 2004-09-27 09:26:00 | There are many aspects of Linux that is more secure than MS Windows. However I believe any OS connected to the net needs a firewall. I've had Linux hacked several times before I took that advice on! I think that Linux draws more attention from hackers - it is more likely to be a server than XP! | JohnD (509) | ||

| 275934 | 2004-09-27 11:43:00 | Real men use iptables ;-) Im still waiting for a reason to upgrade my server from the 2.6.1 kernel its currently running.... Crashing from a Bash prompt? So what, Im the only one with Login :p Its like saying: I can break/exploit Windows XP, but I need to know the name of an account with administrator access (Be it "administrator" or not) as well as the password, then I can get to work. Its just not heard of! You exploit Windows without any authentication! I would update the kernel, but my uptime is doing so well, I dont wanna spoil it, so there's no point in rebooting! Chill. |

| 275936 | 2004-09-27 12:37:00 | Sadly we had a Power Cut not long ago and Im not rich enough to buy UPS (Open for Donations however), but anyways: Orion root # uptime 12:31:12 up 10 days, 22:24, 1 user, load average: 0.10, 0.03, 0.01 Before that it was 71 days (Power died to move the server) and before that it was 119 days (Power Cut killed it then too). Ive never bothered updating the kernel and setting up the grub entry so it'll boot it next time there's a power cut. Just dont see the need..... Chill. |
