276132 2004-09-27 12:44:00 Greetings,

Just wondering...
Ive got an external 120GB USB2.0 HDD
Ive got the first 95 used as a Fat32 partition... The rest is currently un-used.

Is it possible to install my 120 day trial of WinXP (Thanks MS) to my USB Drive? Currently my HDD is running Yoper Linux (I know it'll wipe the mbr, but I'll chroot into my install from the Love-LiveCDv2 and rewrite it) and I dont want it to be formatted.

Cheers

276133 2004-09-27 12:53:00 What about putting something like XOL (www.ranish.com) or GAG on before windows, would that capture it?

276135 2004-09-27 13:09:00 Chill,

It should install ok.

But what sort of Boot order is in the Bios for this type of set up.?

Would you not need some form entry in your boot loader/Bios for the Bootable usb drive when present.?

Or have I misread your setup. if yoper is in IDE 1 drive, why would XP on USB wipe IDE MBR?

276136 2004-09-27 13:15:00 Yeah - The other issue is can I get some sort of Linux Bootload to run it from the USB HDD?

This is _assuming_ it installs to it.

276138 2004-09-27 13:32:00 Chill,

Not in my current collectionof disk/partition managers.

Please let me know if you find one, I have been thinking along the lines of USB instead of racks for some things, this is one of the issues.

276139 2004-09-27 13:37:00 I think XOSL supports it.

276141 2004-09-27 14:09:00 Any chance you can point me to a success story in that case? Or a link on a website that at least mentions it does?

Thanks
