2004-09-28 02:53:00 | Okay, I booted the WinXP Installation and it bitched and moaned about not having a boot loader that would boot from a SCSI device or something like that.... So, I took it outa its caddy, threw it in a nearby desktop (Its great working in PC-Repairs) and began the installation using the 2nd part of the HDD. When it came time to reboot, I killed power to the PC and put it back into the Caddy. Now to just get a Boot Loader (I'm gonna see if Lilo, perhaps Grub will do it first) that'll boot from my External! Post back soon Chill.

2004-09-28 06:52:00 | Chill, I thought that may be the case, and the fix, but now that its "in" will it Boot via OLS2K? D.

2004-09-28 13:21:00 | I dont think I can install that without Windows first... And also - How kindly will it take to my Reiser4 partition? I may have to wait a day or two until I can replace Yoper with Gentoo (Hoping to do this Wednesday even -> Thursday evening) and have an Ext2 /boot partition. Time to google on the product me thinks. Sadly my Laptop cant boot from a USB Drive - So the boot loader muts be installed on my primary hdd with the ability to read from a usb device immediately. Chill.

2004-09-28 13:31:00 | Chill, Reisers should not be a problem its just a format "in" a partition, is not the "partition table" the commander? Shame about the lappie. So both the Bios and the boot manager must need to be capable USB boot. Must file that. Look forward to hearing final result I believe you will win. D.

2004-09-28 13:37:00 | Thanks for the vote of confidence. Ive just posted to the LUG, hope for good results soon :-) The BIOS doesnt need to boot USB - Only the Boot Manager, as the Boot Manager will be installed on my Primary Master HDD (AKA /dev/hda or (hd0,0) in GrUB). This is why I want to see if its possible to do it with Grub or Lilo - keeping it native and all ;-) Thanks for your help, Chill.

2004-09-29 01:00:00 | Perhaps, install Lilo to /root and let the loader call it from there. Cheers Murray P
