| 276695 | 2004-09-29 07:17:00 | > No, I haven't - where do I go to do that please? Plug your new drive in first. Then Right click on the My Computer Icon and select Manage > Disk Management. You should see the USB drive displayed. If you wish to partition your 40 gig drive do this first. Then select a partition (or the complete drive in not partitioned) and choose format. You may wish to use FAT32. After the drive has been formatted, you should see it listed as a device under My Computer. Let us know if this helps or if you require further assistance. :) |

| 276697 | 2005-12-08 03:19:00 | I have a very similar problem, I'm using Win2k, I've connected a portable drive via a firewire connection on an add in PCI card. Computer management doesn't "see" the drive which is a 20GB IBM Travelstar 2.5" notebook drive. The device appears in the device manager as a disk drive but not in my computer or computer management as a removable drive. The drive came out of a notebook with WinXP on it and is formatted in NTFS. I have also tried a brand new drive in it to no avail. I have unnstalled/reinstalled all drivers associated with the PCI card and with this new device, with no luck. Any ideas anyone? | Jim.D (4983) | ||

| 276699 | 2005-12-08 07:04:00 | Thanks for that. I have got both the firewire cable and the power supply cable plugged in. I tried it on a USB connection as well and got the same result. Thanks again. | Jim.D (4983) | ||
