I think about it here joanc How many programs are normally on the PCW CD??? There normal be at lest 20 or more programs on a CD? I would think it is very un pracal for PCW to install & test each program to make sure there is No virus etc.. in that program, that is why they say in the mag & on the CD ( I think they do), to run your own Anti-Virus program over the CD every time you run it. |

Nope, I dont think so > Not to mention that the files could simply > be corrupted - they would still put it on the CD and > send it out . I would think there is about a 1 % chance that would happen . |

It only takes minutes to install a program, I dont think that is unpractical, and in any case most of the programs are repeated each month so would not have to be retested if the same files are used. They do say give a scan your self and it's not our fault if it's got virus. But this is not the point, they know most people dont have up-to-date virus scanner or even a scanner at all. Most people have no idea how to use their computer safely and just blunder about surfing the internet and shoving CD's in. When they provide a tempting CD full of goodies, what do they think most people are going to do, scan it, I doubt it, they are just going to shove it in and get playing with the goodies. Therefore with a; fantastic reputation of writing very informative stories, having a help forum, and providing a CD packed full of goodies. I think a little more care should be taken. |

I am very grateful for this service as it saves me time and bandwith. The disclaimer for the cd states "The programs on this CD are supplied 'as is' from the software vendors" I don't see how anyone can blame PC World. They did not write the program, they do not force you to install it, and they actively encourage you to keep your AV def's up to date. Thanks PC World for the great magazine and CD :D |
