276608 2004-09-29 03:47:00 "A couple of SATA drives" set up in RAID configuration won't help here. The "fastest P4" might give some improvement. A gigabyte might. Or not. After you don't need any more memory you don't need any more memory.

Of course it well,The comp would be (like all comps) making constant use of the harddrives, either by constant use of the swap file or by saving and retrieving info from the hd.

Thats my argument, just for the sake of it.

276609 2004-09-29 03:48:00 But Matlab runs fine with a relatively slow system. However, it is a software that exist for the user to create his own program. Just like a language compiler (like C/C++) requires little to run (some run on DOS and are extremelly light to run).

But if the user's batch or code is really heavy, or really demanding (despite some effort to make it time-memory-cost effective), then Matlab could go really slow or run the system out of memory really easily.

It's a bit like having a 1000 pages microsoft word file. Word does not take too much, but would require an extremelly performant system to manage the task.

276610 2004-09-29 03:58:00 And of course, Matlab should be the only thing running. You don't want Internet, firewall, antivirus, other applications loaded at boot time sitting there "in case" you want them. That bar on the bootom line should have the time showing. :D You want the computer running your Matlab application. :D Graham L (2)
