277505 2004-10-02 06:51:00 How do you make Opera initiate a dial-up routine when you open it?

About a year ago there was a thread running in F1 re Opera failing to start up a dial-up connection routine at start up. At that time the person who initiated that enquiry eventually gave up, as he never got a proper answer to the problem.

I have suddenly discovered the delights of Opera but don’t want to have to resort to a separate MS program to contact my ISP in order to use Opera.

277508 2004-10-02 23:52:00 The 'Index : 35' option doesn't do anyhting at all. It certainly doesn't trick Windows into doing a dila-up.

The 'Index : 265' procedure looks a bit daunting and I wonder how easy it is to return to the original set-up should problems occur. If one does follow all those steps is it then still possibly to use IE in the normal way (including the auto dial-up that it does currently)?

277510 2004-10-04 01:03:00 Since my previous message I have tried following the instructions as per 'Index:265' ("Starting a dialup connection in Windows 2000 and XP") - without success. This brought me to the point where no browser would auto dial-up and neither would Outlook Express. This state of affairs remained even when I turned off my firewall, so I returned all the seetings to the original state. True to the instructions I restarted the computer each time.

I'm still studying the later references.

Sadly, I'm beginning to categoriser Opera as "Good body, but hairy legs!!!". Time will tell.

277511 2004-10-04 03:38:00 If it is a big inconvenience to you to connect to your ISP before opening Opera you could create a batch file that will both connect to your ISP and then open Opera for you. You can then place the shortcut to the batch file on your Quicklaunch bar or desktop. tommy (2826)
277512 2004-10-05 03:12:00 Thanks for the batch file suggestion. I'll think about that one. Meantime my priority is to try to return my machine to where it was before I started the Opera saga (see separate thread starting today).
