277426 2004-10-01 20:28:00 I have recently updated to XP SP2 and now have the following glitches

1) I am getting the following message when starting my computer
"brsvc01a encountered a problem and needed to close"
What is brsvc01a? and is there a solution to this problem?

2) I have a dial up connection that used to run about 50 Kbps but is now only getting up to 31.2 Kbps What should I be looking at to sort this out?

Thanks

277429 2004-10-01 23:37:00 I also encountered a similar problem with the modem connection spped after applying SP2 as mentioned in one of my previous posts. It has got something to do with v92 protocol as suggested by someone who replied to my post earlier.

I am quite sure this is a SP2 problem. Haven't come across any solution to this, yet.

277430 2004-10-08 18:59:00 Yes mine has changed to SoftV92

I rolled back to the V90 driver and got my speed back

BUT

next time I used the computer, it was slow again. I checked the driver and found it had reverted back to the V92 driver.

Is microsoft now deciding what we need?

Anyway I tried to roll back again but received a message saying "no driver files have been backed up for this device"

Anybody know what is going on?

277431 2004-10-09 06:17:00 it was me that replied bkt question. Telecoms exchange hardware has problems with the v92 standard therefore when the handshaking is done between your ISP and your computer upon making a connection ( those bips and beeps you hear when your modem connects to your isp, is actually the two modem negotiating a optimum connection speed) the effect is lowering your connection speed through the autonegotiation between the two modems. as I said you can change the standard your modem uses by using a initialization string (found that this gave me data errors, but this may not be true for you) do a forum search on the v90 standard that may reveal beama (111)
