| 277288 | 2004-09-30 22:38:00 | in moxilla i tryed to go to windows update and recieved the following!! is this legal? Thank you for your interest in Windows Update Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the most out of your computer. You need to be running a version of Internet Explorer 5 or higher in order to use Windows Update. Download the latest version of Internet Explorer Once Internet Explorer is installed, you can go to the Windows Update site by typing http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com into the address bar of Internet Explorer. If you prefer to use a different Web browser, updates to Windows may be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center. |

The Windows Update site uses ActiveX which Mozilla and Opera, etc do not have so they cannot scan your computer to see what updates you require. Just use IE for getting your updates or go to the site listed to download them manually in Mozilla. |

You have to realise that most of the bug fixes and holes are due to IE and therefore microsoft need to have it running in order to pick which holes it needs to plug and they can't do that if you don't have it running. Mozilla doesn't have those holes so this is tthis is upsetting to Microsoft who panic when they see you using a browser other than their own, hence the message. :D | Odin (227) | ||

And if you lose in court, just procrastinate and other diversions will cloud the issue until the fuss dies down, so you effectively win anyway. The golden Rule, "Those with the gold make the rules". The lawyers will do okay either way. (sorry Winston 001) R2 |

You must be running a Microsoft Windows operating system in order to use Windows Update. |

There is a really sad thing about this. You can download from mandrake, red hat, ect, with anything but you can not download from windows with a non windows product. Who is really scared of whom.
