The barracuda recognised properly in bios. Reformatted as ntfs and reinstalled ghost image still the same problem. Installed as slave device and recognised. Able to be seen in xp and used dragged and dropped a folder with 15 gigs of data files backwards and forwards no problems. Kill disked it and reformated with partion magic no go Used smart fdisk no go ran seatools diagnostic and generic drive tests no problems dectected ran as master detected but won't boot ran as cable select detected but no boot changed cables multiple times ran as secondary master detected but no boot all bios options for boot order set correctly ran a secondary psu to provide juice just fot the barracuda no change all pins intact tried on another mobo with a different ghost image same problem spent hours on this past the point of it being economic but it has me bugged any suggestions ? oh yeah installed in a packard bell with a gigabyte board but hat aint the problem since its been working fine with the samei image reinstalled on a 10 gig drive. |

You say you ran kill disk on it, have you tried a full on 12 hour low level format? Are you able to copy files to the harddrive and still access them inside windows and run programs from the drive. (Just throwing some guesses in here) | Odin (227) | ||
| 277247 | 2004-10-01 02:17:00 | Yep am able to copy files backwards and forwards under xp when set as slave (and whose cruddy scandisk also thinks all is rosy in barracuda land) tried freshinstall of winxp this morning and all went well until first reboot and no drive dectected will probably give up and simply use it as a noncritical data backup since this sucker simply does not want to boot under any circumstances |
