277195 2004-09-30 12:48:00 Hey,

I've got a small problem trying to access my computer through remote desktop. Both PC's the client and the server are running xp pro. I can access the machine I want to be able to access on the local network, but not when I try to connect through the Internet, from work. I have a static ip, and I have port forwarded tcp port 3389 to the computer i want to control but it still comes up with an unable to connect error.

Any ideas?

Ashley

So from work, you have to login to it, and enter a username/password??

277199 2004-09-30 21:54:00 Hi Ashley have you right hand clicked the my computer icon & selected properties. then click the remote tab and ensure that "allow remote users to conect to this computer" is checked. below that is a button to select remote users, enable the account you will be logging in under.

hope that helps

277201 2004-10-01 02:48:00 What type of router do you have? You may have "Block Anonymous Internet Requests" or something to that affect enabled. This will stop remote desktop. If you go to grc.com and have stealth on your ports then remotedesktop will not work. Remote desktop has to get a response ping to work even with port 3389 forwarded. Berryb (654)

Just curious as to why you say this?
I have a clients who run an IPCop PC as their router and I have disabled ping responses on those and I use Remote Desktop connection with no problems.

277203 2004-10-01 05:06:00 On my router I had to enable ping response to get remote desktop to work. I had tried everything except allowing pings and remote desktop didn't work. Once I allowed pings remote desktop works fine. If I block pings it stops again. I haven't used IPcop but suspect this issue is due to the type of router being used. Berryb (654)
