Does this mean you'll effectively be paying twice for the adsl connection? Sounds like another reason Telecon are taking so long with changing me to bitstream....just so they can milk another month out of me.
Thanks for pointing this out. I'll be keeping a beady eye on my bill over the next few weeks and giving them some sh*t if they try and pull a swifty by making me pay twice.

277375 2004-10-08 10:23:00 It makes me wonder how much of that wait is actually on the part of Orcon - surely they don't do things instantly? Growly (6)
277376 2004-10-08 10:30:00 They would do everything in their power to attract and keep the crumbs left over by telescum,in this case its in telecom's hands, all Orcon do is foward the orders, However i think a couple weeks to roll out a new service is just fine and dandy,If i'm still waiting for my increase in a month then i'll............ring telecom and get put on hold for hours untill i give up..... metla (154)

277380 2004-10-11 21:31:00 You can. They are in Albany.
Interesting the new email "reply" format when they have hired extra staff.
And they always did have problems with their connections. Seems to be technician policy to blame everyone else.

277381 2004-10-23 09:36:00 Has anyone who signed up on the 'earlybird' plan ($49.95) that Orcon were offering noticed that they are still offering this price to all customers? The price was supposed to change to 59.95 after 1st October.

Seems to me that the Earlybird thing was just a load of bollards. A rare black mark against Orcon for this. Not that I really care as I would have signed up for it anyway.

Not only that but when I signed up to ADSL about 3 months back they said my connection would be automatically upgraded to bitstream when available. It wasn't of course, I had to signup manually on 1st October. That makes 2 black marks.

Still reckon they are the best value-for-money ISP (and I've tried a few).

I hope this Bitstream business works out without too many hitches.

The reason for this earlybird special was that telecom were introducing a $100 'churn fee' for any customers that orcon signed up that come from another ISP (after a certain date, which has since passed). So orcon tried to get as many people on their service before this came into effect, in order to avoid the churn fees. I can't see whats wrong with them deciding to keep the price the same. Would it have been any different if they'd put the price up to $59.95 only to reduce it to $49.95 a month later?

Thats odd. When I signed up I was told that I'd be notified when bitstream was available so that I could sign up to it. Sadly I still haven't heard anything from orcon about my upgrade, but I can understand that - telecom will be the one holding them up.

I agree though, they're definitely the best isp around.

277383 2004-10-23 20:32:00 signed up to bitstream before 1 Oct as an early bird
haven't received anything through email yet
should really call orcon to check if i'm on the list...

having a bad feeling that the sign up form screwed up...
it would've been nice if orcon emailed you to confirm that you're on the list

..but i guess telecom is making everyone to wait..
