277869 2004-10-03 09:25:00 Since installing SP2 my modem speed has dropped from a consistent 48kb to 31 kb. Any ideas? Huru (4902)
277870 2004-10-03 09:38:00 That's funny - I think my actual connect speed as measured by NetStat Live seems to have dropped by about the same amount. I wasn't keeping records previously so thought it might be my imagination but maybe there is something in this. twelvevolts (2623)
277871 2004-10-03 09:59:00 My connection is unchanged. It remains at 54.4 Kbps. Vince :-) Vince (406)
277872 2004-10-03 10:13:00 What type of modem? Rob99 (151)
277873 2004-10-03 10:15:00 QOS is enabled on the connection? alphazulusixeightniner (185)
277874 2004-10-03 21:02:00 What do u need QOS for?? Whether or not its installed, it wont affect the speed u connect at on dialup. Spacemannz (808)
277875 2004-10-04 00:29:00 I like to turn it off for a bit of extra speed :) alphazulusixeightniner (185)
277876 2004-11-01 10:00:00 Problem solved. I eventually found an update for my modem driver - so now I am back to 48kb and sometimes 49.2 kb ! Huru (4902)
277877 2004-11-01 11:36:00 Those connection values actually mean nothing in terms or your true connection speed.

They can be changed by many factors, as you've seen with the drivers.

Look for real world performance related to downloads and browsing - don't get hung up on the little "Connected at xx.xxkbps" flags.

Is there any way of determining exactly what that performance is?
Is there a reliable speed test site?
I've tried a few of them & they all seem to give different results.
I know there are many factors affecting speed from various sites etc. but there must be one around that will give a consistent result
