277741 2004-10-03 00:18:00 Hi,
I have some vids on a couple of cds that I want to burn into vcd, when I put them into my lappy and bring up "ashampoo" and try to select the file the system locks up. Even if i bring up my computer and try to explore the disk it locks. I have tried the disk in my old pc and it works fine(no burner on that one though). I have also tried another disk in the lappy drive and the drive itself seems to work fine. Got me stuffed, anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers
Mik

277742 2004-10-03 00:24:00 What version of Windows have u got? And whats the name of the Ashampoo program? And can it deal with VCD's? Have u tried Nero for burning, if its installed? Spacemannz (808)
277743 2004-10-03 00:29:00 Oops forgot that (big night last night) running winxp pro sp2 on lappy and win98se on old pc. I have nero but it is budled software and wont convert and burn mpeg's.
The main problem is that when I put the cd in the drive and try to do anything with it the comp freezes, it only does it with lappy, disks play fine on old win98 comp.

277744 2004-10-03 00:34:00 Hmm might be the memory on the laptop?? How much memory have u got Mik? in XP and 98??

And the files, you're trying to burn are mpeg then. How big are they?

What version of Nero have u got?? I think V6+ should burn VCD's.

277745 2004-10-03 00:45:00 I think I have 256 meg in each pc. I have Nero v5, the files are around 220meg each, three on each disk.

If I open My Computer and right click and select properties of the disk it locks solid straight away, if it was a lack of memory would it not take a little while to lock???

277746 2004-10-03 01:24:00 One more question Mik. Whats the speed of the CPU's in these PC's??

That maybe a factor

277747 2004-10-03 03:00:00 Sounds like a corrupted disk.

Try re-burning them on another computer that can read them ok.

Old pc is a 350mhz and lappy is a 2.4ghz

If the files on the disks were corrupt would the old pc not be able to read it either?
got me stuffed, need to try and get these burnt off tonight so I can get them back to the owner in wellington.

277750 2004-10-03 19:42:00 Are the files on the disk divx?

There is a known issue with divx and sp2.
