277734 2004-10-02 23:55:00 I have tried about 4-5 times to download AVG from griisoft but it seems the connection is being dropped every so often and I have to start agian downloading the whole thing.

The last time it was 99% done, probably 99.9 and then ay the last moment Phut! The comp disconnected.

I just had IE going doing the downlaod, turned off everything else.

Freind's comp, Win98se plenty spare HDD space. 56K dialup. Don't know more specs.

Any ideas, tips, past experiences? AVG is 7+ Megs, takes about an hour and a quarter to download.
:O Stumped.

277735 2004-10-03 00:02:00 Ideas:
- Look for the program on a recent Computer Magazine cover disc
- Get a download manager so that the download can be resumed
- Download it yourself and take it over to your friends place on CD
- Try a different location to download it from - select a mirror from here (www.majorgeeks.com).

277736 2004-10-03 00:22:00 Thanks Jen C.

1. Have looked for an AV on cds but doesn't seem to happen as much as free browser/firewalls ets. Never seen AVG on a magazine CD.

2. Been suspicious of download managers because of malware. Will give it a go. Once used "Free Download Manager" but thought it was too intrusive. i.e. Difficult to get rid of.

3. Best idea but no CD writer. Could it be done with floppies?

4. Will give this one a go.

Thanks again and a kind of different point really but can you do it with floppies? The puzzle I have is how to "stitch" the files together from one floppy load to the next? Should be new topic I guerss but we'll see.

Have a nice day :) Blustery overcast and cool here.

As far as download managers go Flashget has never given me any grief

277739 2004-10-03 04:53:00 Hi Mark,

Just wonder whether you are already using AVG on a different PC .
I tried to download the free version a while ago for win Xp without any luck .

Then found the information that the free version can now only be used on 1 PC per user . I am already using AVG on a PC with Win 95 .

So I downloaded Avast which is also a free program . Works fabulously . Really prefer it to AVG .
