277565 2004-10-02 11:51:00 Hello All,

Link for the night,
DVD Plugin (www.commentcamarche.net)

This Plugin enables full DVD support in Media Player 10.

The feedback is it works well, however it is not supported by Microsoft and all the normal warnings apply (eg: set a new system restore point before loading etc)

Regards

AC

Unless my understanding of the french text is seriously astray, it refers to viewing a DVD via MP10. I am fairly certain that viewing a DVD is not an offence against the rights of a disk's producer. If it is, I will put all my DVD's away and not look at them again.

(Besides, French wares are probably fashion items anyway) :)

277569 2004-10-02 13:40:00 The codec that enables viewing of DVD movies is a commercial product, any device capable of play back of a dvd has to own a lisence to do so,Windows cannot do it by default and needs the codec to do so,the codec is supplied with commercial dvd software, which needs to be purchased,or if bundled with a drive a portion of the purchase price is paid to whomever it is who gets these things.

This is why the Xbox requires the purchase of a remote control to play dvd's(to avoid the lisencing costs being added onto the purchase price for those that don't want to use it as a dvd player,This is why no media player can playback DVD's without the correct codec loaded, but when it is loaded all media players can play them.

Any "hack" that enables playback is just an illegal codec.
