2004-10-02 14:17:00 | Well,after reading the FAQ that Chilli linked to,its plain as day an ilegal hack. | metla (154) | |
2004-10-02 14:30:00 | Gentelmen, If a DVD rom/rw is legally obtained bundeled with windows dvd movie player software and the "owner" then installs this "Rom" in a system with linux and uses "VLC" has not the owners requirment to pay a fee been discharged by the purchase of the bundeled software not being used? Metla "VLC" as discribed is not an illegal hack. It is free and states that the end user must pay, and whom the end user must pay. A very fine "Legal" hair split. It only becomes "Illegal" if the end user does not pay, is this not what is written? D.

2004-10-02 14:35:00 | Its an ilegal hack,no matter what spin is put on it. | metla (154) | |
2004-10-02 14:55:00 | Metla, Please that is not spin . I know one of clarks proffesional spin doctors, and how to tell the difference . The position of VLC would be legall, they are not facalatating as they have informed the end user of their obligations . If they took the position of some of the free P . E . suppliers and told end users where to obtain the codex and how to install it . they would possibly be culpable for inciting in some Countries . They have told end users that they must pay, and whom to pay, using the same legall logic that makes it legall to publish "How to make a Bomb", "How to murder your wife" Ect . This situation does make life very difficult for some of the free nix distributors and explains the lack of the software though . Nix writers are very enterprising I am sure a resuolution is in the offing . Does the codex licence issue apply to both DVD formats? D .

2004-10-02 14:02:00 | Fine,i'll give you a serial number to run Photoshop, its up to you to pay them what they are due. Sound good? Want a couple for XP Pro?,office 2003? Hell,i'll just make a site to destribute them, its all legal as long as i mention u have to pay. What a load of bullocks, those people who wrote that program and destribute it can't write the rules to suit themselves.

2004-10-02 14:12:00 | Then why has one of the top 5 most popular Linux players not been killed off by some lawyer with too much time on his/her hands?? Why have I not paid for a single piece of DVD Software yet, but still have xine, mplayer, vlc and ogle on my freshly formatted Gentoo Linux 2004.2 laptop?? Surely a lawyer must have wanted to pick off some of the software by now? After all - Xbox Media Center is based on MPlayer, which is Linux software, and Open-Source. It also has the ability to play DVD's.... Yet it can be installed with 100% legality on an XBox?? How? Chill.

As long as YOU Legally obtain the S# in Question, and you make no direct "Gain" from its distribution, it would be legall . That is why Nero will not allow a PE supplier to freely distribute a driver they have licence rights to, but will allow him to supply the link to Nero's site, and clearly aid him in showing where it can be individually freely downloaded . > > What a load of bullocks, those people who wrote that > program and destribute it can't write the rules to > suit themselves . They have not written the rules to suit themselves . They have merly done what M/s and so many M/s cohorts do, read the rules, find a very legall loophole, exploit it . The difference is they are providing for free, not robbing everone like M/S and Cohorts generally do . Which M/S and Cohorts really do not like . D . |

2004-10-02 14:19:00 | uh...NO,the spreading of apps for the xbox is highly ileagal, which is why sites will direct you to a mirc chatroom rather then host it,its all based on stolen and modified MS code and they have sent a number of people to jail for it so far. As to your dvd playing software,Its crooked, your crooked, the peeps who came up with it are crooked, the reason they get away with it will be due to there location and being headless.
