2004-10-02 14:22:00 | Here's my situation. I have my PC, which is a 1.36Ghz Celeron (actually 1.2 :P). It is in a socket 370 MSi motherboard, without AGP slots. I have 384MB of PC133 RAM, a 256 and a 128 filling both slots. I have a nice 30GB hard drive which is quiet and fast, a floppy drive and a DVD-ROM drive. I want to add a 9200SE graphics card, but don't have AGP. I was thinking of, when buying a new motherboard with AGP, I can seem to find any that are socket 370 but support CPU's above 1Ghz. So I was wondering about going all out and buying a brand new motherboard for about $70 at wholesale price from my own business. But then I would have to buy a socket 478 celeron, I was thinking of the 2.4Ghz Celeron D, which would cost me $111. But then wouldn't I have to buy DDR ram? By that time it's gone way over my budget. I sort of wanted to keep the whole thing sub-$200, including the graphics card ($78.50). What do you people suggest?

2004-10-02 14:31:00 | The celeron 2.4 with 256k cache and 533mhz fsb is cheaper by about $20 than an AthlonXP 2400+. So is the 478 motherboard, by about $15.

2004-10-02 14:37:00 | You dont need a AMD 2400 to outperform a celeron 2.4, you could probally use AMD 1800 | Rob99 (151) | |
2004-10-02 14:40:00 | or a duron 1.6........ | metla (154) | |
2004-10-02 14:52:00 | Oh My understanding of CPUs has been changed. I will now recalculate the AMD version of my problem.

2004-10-02 14:57:00 | $90 - AthlonXP 2000+ $75 - Socket A Motherboard What about RAM though - I don't want to waste it. Does ANYBODY here have a Socket 370 Motherboard with AGP that can take 1.36Ghz and a 112Mhz FSB? Or is there such thing as a Socket A or Socket 478 that takes PC133 RAM?

2004-10-02 14:58:00 | Before you do....AMD have recently rebranded and re-numbered there line of Socket-A cpu's to align them with the Celeron range, ....Just to add to the general confusion..... | metla (154) | |
2004-10-02 14:15:00 | This would be so much easier if I had unlimited money. *sigh*
