| 278374 | 2004-10-05 03:26:00 | I have a friend who has a laptop running Windows 98. He decided he was going to install Windows XP. He booted from the cd-rom and started the install. Half way through the install he decided he didnt want Windows XP after all, and stopped it installing. Now when he turns the laptop on, it has a boot menu asking if he would like to boot into Windows XP (default) or Windows 98. If he leaves it to load, then it trys to continue the Windows XP install. If he changes it to Windows 98, the it loads perfectly as it normally would. He would like to completely remove the Windows XP installed files & have it automatically load into Windows 98 without the boot menu prompt. Help! |

Open boot.ini in notepad, and remove the line referring to Windows XP Also make sure the default is equal to the path next to the "Windows 98" or "previous operating system" etc. Change the time out to 0. Close boot.ini and save. Now, delete any folders with 'NT' in them eg ~NTSETUP~.something or folder names like that. There may only be one. Should work now. |
