278330 2004-10-05 01:43:00 I have a HP Scanjet 4470 on my laptop running WinXP. I also use ACDSee. When I first tried ACDSee on my laptop I was delighted to see an XP screen opening up asking me what sort of scan I wanted – I selected colour and then the whole process was completed automatically. I never saw the scanner scanning the files and showing me a preview. On my old computer the scanner did scan and show me a preview before scanning it again to download it to ACDSee. The old system took twice as long. But after some changes to my laptop not involving ACDSee I now have the old system operating. I have to go through 2 scans instead of one. Woe is me. Any suggestions please. I have exhausted my bright and not so bright ideas to no avail. Thomas01 (317)

Exactly, or to change resolution or colour setting, etc. Generally I will only preview the first of a batch to ensure everything is going to come out sweet. But, the preview is optional and should be on yours, what does the scanner tools software Help say, there may be a software update that adds this function if it's not included with your current software.

278333 2004-10-05 04:49:00 Hi Thomas,

You probably used XP's built in Scanner and Camera wizard,

You can find it under Start, Programmes, accessories, Camera and Scanner Wizard.

Just click on it and it will ask if you want a colour picture etc.

278334 2004-10-05 21:34:00 Yes the first scan is a preview but I don't want it. The other method automatically scanned either the complete screen or whatever I had put on the screen. And yes the screen I want can be found using the scanner wizard in WinXP but when I try to go further using the scanner wizard it fails on me and reports an unknown error.
Obviously as I did have precisely what I wanted previously, then I must have done something to spoil the set up. Needless to say I have tried the help files - preferences etc in WindowsXP, ACDSee, and my HP scanner - all to no avail.

278335 2004-10-06 00:59:00 Hello Thomas,

Scanners can be very temperamental under the XP OS, you will probably need to uninstall your scanner.

When reinstalling let XP search and load the drivers it deems to be the correct the ones, this normally ensures that the camera and Scanner wizard will work with the scanner.

Although the HP scan software may not (this is the usual problem I have to solve) in your case this will not be a problem as obviously XP's scan wizard is your preferred choice.
