| 278185 | 2004-10-04 09:52:00 | a home "Server" all its doing is hosting the internet for 2 other computers, both with winxp, one is home and the other is pro. Specs of the pc im using it on is: p3 1ghz 384mb ram 13gb hdd. Using an usb adsl modem and does a java come with linux? or do i have to download it? and if so where from?, I have mandrake 9.2 on cd would this do? or is there a better on i can use? Thanks |

You are wanting a Firewall/fileserver then and not a desktop installation? Mandrake wouldn't be a good choice as a firewall/fileserver - it is more of a desktop distro. |

| 278194 | 2004-10-04 23:00:00 | slackware. check the compatibility of the usb adsl modem. if it's only running as a gateway, why do you need java? slack comes with java included anyway, probably a lot of other distros do too. |
