278249 2004-10-04 21:26:00 Hi,
My PC was working fine. I shut down and replaced my Celeron 950 with a
Pentium III 933, added a stick of SDRAM, another hard drive, and a
DVDROM drive. In doing this I took my Abit VA-6 motherboard out of the
ATX case and then reinstalled it.

Now when I press my case power button there is no response. No fans
start up, no beeps, nothing (not even the power supply fan goes).
There is the barest flicker from my case lights. I tried taking
everything out and only using the bare minimum components. Still no
joy - no fans.

I tried swapping in another motherboard (an ASUS CUV-4X-e). The LED
light on this motherboard works to show it is receiving power. But no
start from anything.

Help!

278250 2004-10-04 21:51:00 You can't put a pentium procesor in a celeron socket... they are different socket types (someone will know the numbers), and probably different voltages.

So you've either bent the pins on the pentium, or shorted it.

Sorry dude...

278251 2004-10-04 21:52:00 Have you got the power switch connected to the right pins on the MOBO and arround the right way. Davesdad (923)

The Abit VA-6 takes a slot 1 processor which could be a Celeron or Pentium III

They both be socket 370 wouldnt they? Unless it was a slot processor but slot and sockets are noticably different.

278254 2004-10-04 22:14:00 The MOBO may need a BIOS upgrade. The original BIOS support CPU upto 700Mhz. Later BIOS support upto 1.1Ghz PIII.
Download the BIOS from here (www.abit-usa.com)

278255 2004-10-04 22:16:00 How can I tell which is the right way around. My motherboard manual doesn't say. Should the colored wire go in the place for pin 1?

I have been using a Slot1-Socket convertor in my Abit board for many years with the Celly. Obviously I didn't need one for the Asus board as it has the socket.

278256 2004-10-04 22:18:00 I have the latest BIOS. As I said, the PC was working fine with the Celeron 950 up until I took it out and swapped in the Pentium III 933. Now the PC will not start with either chip installed. jakec (6237)
