278655 2004-10-06 08:13:00 Hi All
I have finely got my new PC :-)
I have decided I will use Outlook as my default mail client as I like the calendar to organise my weeks. I have discovered that I can't access my newsgroups with Outlook. I have followed all the advice in the Help menu but I have no 'news' option in my 'go' menu option (as suggested in MS Office Outlook Help)
Is anyone else using Outlook and can help me?
Many thanks

Meg

278656 2004-10-06 08:40:00 I have it on my Go options. Did you do a full install of Outlook or a typical? Maybe you need to install the Newsgroup option. Not sure, just a guess. Berryb (654)
278657 2004-10-06 09:44:00 Hi Berry
I tried that and it wasn't an option so I followed the directions to add it to my go options and it wouldn't move.
So I have no newsgroups..... :-(
Is there any way to view newsgroups online?

Have a great day
Meg

278658 2004-10-06 09:54:00 You say in your first post that the News option was not there. In your next post it reads as though the News option was there but wouldn't move. Which is it? If it is there and it will not move are you sure you are trying to move it to the right place. You have to hold down your click and drag to the standard toolbar. That is the toolbar at the top of the screen below the New, Edit, View with reply, forward, send/receive. Dragging to the word "go" in the left hand panel of the toolbar commands option is not the correct place to drag to. Berryb (654)

Thanks for the reply
I have now managed to get newsgroups. I got the 'news' option on the toolbar and when I clicked it bought up Outlook Express , I suppose that is the default NG reader??
Anyway I am happy.
Thank you for your help :-)

Have a great day

278660 2004-10-06 10:02:00 Outlook Express? Most likely. I don't use this Outlook option so wasn't sure what program was used. I use Xnews for my newsreader.
Happy to help

278661 2004-10-06 10:06:00 what is Xnews?? Meg_h_nz (6065)
278662 2004-10-07 07:07:00 Xnews is a newsreader. I have used it for a few years now. Can't remember why I use it over Microsofts newsreader. If you want to find out more do a search on Google for xnews. Berryb (654)
278663 2004-10-08 04:01:00 I just had a look in my Outlook, and when I went View - Go To - News, it brought up an Outlook newsreader (not Outlook Express).

I had a go at setting up an account to see how user friendly it was, and it insists that you put your email address in it so it will be shown if you post to a newsgroup. So I aborted setting up the account... That alone is enough to suggest not using Outlook as your newsreader (or else not posting to any newsgroups).

Do all newsreaders insist that you display your email address like that? Seems like a recipe for getting yourself onto all the spammer lists in the cyberworld. Of course if you just want to lurk and not post, it isn't a problem.

I believe Free Agent (which is freeware) is a popular newsreader).

278664 2004-10-08 08:27:00 Hi John
I discovered Outlook Newsreader and am using that.
I don’t have a problem with adding an e-mail address , I just add a fake one. Then no one can e-mail me.
Or some ngs I do put an accessible one but make it
un-harvestable i.e. meg_h_nz@hotmailTRASH.com (take out the trash to reply) I have had next to no spam when using this.

Have a great weekend
Meg
