278429 2004-10-05 09:34:00 Hi there, my computer takes about 41 secs to go from grub to the windows GUI when the NIC is enabled, when disabled 15 secs.

Is there anything I can do to cut the boot time down without disabling the NIC.

Thanks.

278430 2004-10-05 09:59:00 Are you using dhcp to assign the ip to the nic or have you mannually assigned (fixed) the ip. If the first statement is true the delay is due to the fact that on bootup your system is looking for a dhcp server to lease an ip from.
To manually assign an ip to your nic check the networking FAQ in pf1 it should help you

278431 2004-10-06 07:43:00 I have tried as both not configured (whatever win98 decides to do when you don't specifically set things up), and also configured with a static I.P. following the FAQ from this site.

Thanks for the reply.

278432 2004-10-06 08:44:00 Win98 is known to boot slow when a NIC is installed, especially when it is not in use. If ya don't need it disable or remove it. Berryb (654)
