>It will probally come as a crack to apply before SP2 is applied

I was wrong, the free version comes from MS itself, no crack/key change needed.

278771 2004-10-11 22:45:00 Rob,

I personally do not need.

Never have my, xp is legit, although very rearely use it (Nix f/fox safer). The sticker was affixed to the box by the supplier. that supplier used his head and put it on the case not on a removable panel like so many do, were all in sundry can walk past and coppy it.

My concern is and has allways been:

There are many xp pirate/coppied/duplicated boxes in circulation.

If these boxes are not fixed they will continue to infect/reinfect the rest of the population. Just like Gonnoreha.

M/S made a short sighted/vindictive act again. Lets get the population clean and help prevent V. D.

If they infected have directions to the free clap clinic. we will all be better off.

Possibly why wer'e still open.

278772 2004-10-11 23:05:00 They are just creating more problems for themselves by not releasing it to every XP infected computer .

Just imagine a virus writer using all the unpatched XP drones to attack the, so called SP2 protected computers .

What would MS do then?

Make another patch or release SP2 to everyone .
Rob99 (151)
278773 2004-10-11 23:24:00 Just a thought rob99, usually the patch is to stop a vunerability that worms can utilize .

Now if the legal copies have been patched, then they are no longer vunerable to the worm . That leaves only the non-SP2 versions (legal and illegal) to spread infection amoung themselves .

So wouldn't that be an incentive for others to install SP2? While those that have SP2 do not have to worry about catching the "disease" .

Oh and if you want any HDD over 137Gig to be recognised by windows XP, you have to have SP2 .

278774 2004-10-11 23:31:00 I was thinking more like a DNS attack on a personal computer that has SP2 Rob99 (151)

Unpatched machine A can be used to spread new disease/attack trojan to patched machine b .

Hence all the surfacing drama about bot nets, and dos .

Since when?

next youll be saying dos cant format over 32 gb .

278776 2004-10-12 05:18:00 My apologies, it seems the limit of 137Gig applies to SP1 or later. And if you don't believe that, then argue with MS about theirArticle (support.microsoft.com)

Nice theory about mach A & B. The point of the patches in SP2 was?

278777 2004-10-12 07:41:00 Pheonix,

No need to appoligise, they change the rules every five minuites.

To cover up the KNOWN Holes at the time.

As so frequently happens the cure, creates a new problem.

Keeping current is allmost a full time job.
