is the sound of steam coming from your watercooling kit attached to your oc'd cpu running at 130deg.

Keep removing fans then the CPU will stop working.

Then you will not have any noise will you?

CPUs run on smoke as far as I can tell.

When the smoke leaks out then the system won't boot.

Not a good idea as you can cook your CPU in very short time.

278720 2004-10-06 19:20:00 I have this exact same problem.

I put it down to the motherboard, or rather the section between the ports on the back of the mobo, and the cpu socket.

The mobo's an ASUS A7V600 and the processors an XP2600 and it makes a sound thats almost like something shorting.

And if you turn your speakers up loud, or sometimes not even loud, you can hear it even better.

My wholesaler who i got the board off says I can return it but was otherwise stumped as to where the sound was coming from.

I haven't got another comp to work on for uni yet so I'm not sending it back just yet, and I haven't as yet seen any detrimental affects.... however I haven't tested my cpu in another board so i cannot be sure it's running at full speed ?:|

278721 2004-10-06 21:52:00 the other thing it could be is a vibrating case rattling against the back panel or noise from the power regs on the mobo (usually lose heatsinks). tweak'e (174)
278722 2004-10-07 10:07:00 Perhaps it is some component sizzling itself away?

But it DEFINITELY sounds like PSU - I have had that noise from dying PSUs many times.

Swap the PSU and see if it goes away. If not, wait and see if it gets louder. If it does, send your motherboard back immediately before something worse happens (I have had a screwed motherboard make that noise and then it got louder, and then there wer sparks and it killed the CPU, RAM and hard drive, and CD-ROM drive.

Floppy still worked though.
