278640 2004-10-07 08:36:00 i think that your driver was right, it sounds like the problem is a network settings problem and not a modem issue. robsonde (120)
278641 2004-10-07 08:45:00 Computer connects on Com 2 but Com 2 is not installed. Is this correct? I'm not sure but I have had problems with winmodems and I have to say if the modem connects on Com 2 then Com 2 is always installed. You haven't got the physical Com 2 enabled in the Bios have you as this could cause problems/conflicts. Berryb (654)
278642 2004-10-08 04:27:00 Com 2 is not installed as a physical port, and it doesn't show up in system properties.

when I installed a modem a while ago, I had to scan for devices, which would let me install COM2, and only then it would detect the modem, which had the jumpers on it set to COM2. this modem has no jumpers.

would disabling COM2 in the bios help?

278643 2004-10-08 09:51:00 Enabling Com2 in the Bios is the same as having it as a physical port, ie just turning on the external port. If your modem is on Com 2 then you should have Com 2 disabled in the Bios, unless of course it is an external modem. Then under add/remove programs you can add Com2 with the required settings. I not saying that this will fix your problem as you can already connect but worth a go. Berryb (654)

278646 2004-10-08 10:09:00 You will need to add more com ports and install the modem on Com4 Rob99 (151)
278647 2004-10-08 18:47:00 The modem driver instals a virtual com port. You shouldn't have to be doing anything extra related to com ports, that is a sign that you have the wrong driver or the instal process is borked. PaulD (232)
