| 278909 | 2004-10-07 10:22:00 | In Win XP pro Under Disk Cleanup There is a thing called "compress old files" & it says for description “Windows can compress files that you haven’t accessed in a while. Compressing files will save disk space while still enabling you to access them, No files will be deleted. Because files compress at different rates, the displayed amount of disk space you gain is approximate" Is it safe to get windows to empty that??? via Disk Cleanup????? |

Looks like you are getting a bit muddled here. ;-) Having Windows compress old files for you is like you "zipping" them all up to save space using Winzip, etc only in this case Windows uses its own compression utility whatever that is. It isnt offering to delete them for you. |

Wellll, if you want to be pedantic, in effect something is removed during the compression process, the so called unecessary bits like overhead, white space, etc. But yes, nothing is removed, the files will take a bit longer to access when you do want to access then that's all.
