HOLY CRAP, what a load of bullocks. who the hell said anything about defining yourself with flashy lights ?. your talking gibberish.
i think they look sweet as when installed in a machine. don't go generalising with your stupid opinion.

Is the Gel Cell rehargeable battery at the bottom of the picture connected to your UPS?

If so, are you aware that the battery terminals clearly accessible are most probably alive at 230 volts AC and highly dangerous?

UPS batteries are not "isolated" from the mains in most lower cost UPS's. Thats why they are usually inside the plastic UPS case.

Yes it is and I beg to differ, get yourself a 12v DC Gell Cell and feed it 240V AC and see what happens. There isn't a UPS on the planet that would feed mains voltage to the gell cell.

You misunderstand.

The battery negative is at 230v ac potential, as is the battery positive (less the 12v DC of course) in the non-isolated versions.

What I am saying is that the entire battery can be "floating" at the mains phase potential. Depending on the type of UPS.

It cannot (as you correctly say) have 230v across it, and that is never the case.

The above is true if the UPS is not an "isolated" model, where the DC input has no connection to (directly or indirectly) to the mains ouput. If yours is an "isolated" design, then thats fine. Its cheaper to have no isolation, so its was often done apparently. The units were not designed to use external batteries, but if your was so designed then you are obviously OK.

People have been killed by assuming that either side of the battery in an inverter is only 12v above ground, when both were ~230v.

279005 2004-10-09 09:04:00 Nothing special for my rig really . . . here it is good old balduran ( . neoburn . net/imagef1/files/Balduran1 . jpeg" target="_blank">sal . neoburn . net) .

P4 2 . 8 Ghz (running @ 3 . 08Ghz)
Asus P4P800 SE mobo
1GB DDR 400 RAM (dual channel)
Gigabyte ATi 9600XT (128MB)
2 x 120GB Seagate SATA drives
Pioneer dual mode DVD +-R/RW drive
Samsung DVD drive
Samsung CDRW drive

Still a very average machine . . . looking to up the RAM and may also upgrade the 9600 XT . . . I'm not to sure yet with what . . . 9800 Pro looks good but if I can afford it I might go back to Nvidia and choose the 6800 ?:|

Yet another debate I watch with gleeful anticipation . . . . the graphics board war!!!

cheers
