279036 2004-10-08 02:36:00 I guess it depends on how you do the backup though. But that is a reasonable assumption, but why not just look at the files in Windows Explorer to check that is the case?

I use a DOS batch file, it's simple and easy.

I back up all data and all email files.

Additionally I periodically do a backup with Ghost, to allow a quick restore when I lose a hard drive (4 lost in 4 years so far...)

279038 2004-10-08 03:11:00 I guess these references are for Norton Ghost 2003.
Has anyone used the new Norton Ghost 9.0?
For a person not well versed in using these programs would Ghost 9.0 be simpler for me to backup drives and incremental backups?
I have a laptop with XP and a spare external USB HDD.

Many thanks,
Hopeless.

279041 2004-10-08 04:09:00 There are others like DriveImager (www.softpedia.com) but it seems that Ghost has become a sort of standard with the professional commmunity. So there is plenty of help available from others who use it. Pheonix (280)

279043 2004-10-10 12:32:00 I downloaded Norton Ghost 9 to try.
It is more difficult to use & slower than Acronis 8, also costs twice as much.
When Symantec took over Power Quest they based Ghost 9 on PQ Drive Image. Should have kept the interface.
Acronis 8 makes incremental images & also allows you to explore the image and extract individual files.
Acronis creates an Image in Windows; no need to reboot.
