278904 2004-10-07 10:12:00 I am running win98SE on a 266PII with 64MB ram. I have just installed a a D-Link ADSL modem through the USB I port. The computer will not shut down now, if I disconnect the modem USB cable or unplug the power to the modem then tell the computer to shut down it dose so. Can anyone help me correct this problem, Xtra has been no help. cmsmith (1141)
278905 2004-10-07 11:18:00 You may need to disconect from the net before shut down, and make sure there is no auto redial/dial turned on. The usb drivers are holding it up/open same problem with hibernation in xp 2k.

278906 2004-10-07 11:24:00 Can the D-Link be conected to a lan card? Or is it only USB. Rob99 (151)
278907 2004-10-07 19:48:00 I concur with Rob, ethernet is a much better means of connecting an DSL modem than USB especially, for win98 and a computer with your specs.

If the modem does not have the ability to connect via ethernet (LAN, NIC, network card), is the it a recent purchase that you can return for another that can?

278908 2004-10-09 07:43:00 The Modem does not have an Ethernet plug.
These modems will not work with XP unless SP1 is installed.
Check if there is an update for Windows 98.
I changed to a DSE Router which gives no problems & is only $128.
If you need an Ethernet card Dick Smith has them for $16.
