1372559 2014-04-12 07:05:00 Anyone here familiar with the above printer setup?

It is connected to my router through Cat5e ethernet cable but it just doesn't show up in the router. When I run the driver setup, it couldn't detect this printer.

What I have done:

I have replaced a known-to-be good ethernet cable without joy. Restarted the printer and PC many times produces no positive results.

This friend of mine bought this printer second hand with no driver software. I downloaded the driver from Canon site.

Any suggestions as how to get this beast to work? I was working fine before I reinstalled the OS to his computer (this computer also bought second hand with pirated OS) because he bought a genuine copy of Win7.

Please advise. Thanks.

1372560 2014-04-12 22:49:00 Connect it to the Ethernet on the case Speedy Gonzales (78)
1372561 2014-04-13 00:27:00 But the PC has got only one Ethernet port, if it's connected to the case, the PC won't be able to connect to the router for Internet access. bk T (215)
1372562 2014-04-13 00:40:00 Well connect it to the ethernet port on the case to set it up, then connect it to the port on the router. See if it still picks it up Speedy Gonzales (78)
1372563 2014-04-13 23:23:00 Unless you have a static IP on the PC, disconnecting the PC from the router might make things even harder to get going.

Try setting a static IP on the printer , on the same subnet as your PC. eg if you PC has an IP of x.x.x.10, then set the printer to x.x.x.199
Setting the static IP on the printer will be the hard part, trying to navigate the menus
IPCONFIG will give the PC's IP adress
Then ping the printer from the PC
run - cmd - ping x.x.x.199
stick x.x.x.199 into Internet explorer & it should give the printers status page

Run the setup again, there will be an option to state the printers IP adress that you just set up

If this is a leased printer, they should have set all this up on delivery. Ring cannon & complain, they might send someone around to do this for you, sometimes free of charge.

1372564 2014-04-14 01:17:00 The printer's ip address is set (from the menu) to 192.168.1.102 -- same subnet as the PC

IPCONFIG does not show the printer's address, all other PCs showed; couldn't ping the printer.; IE couldn't reach the printer either. I've changed another cable but no joy.

As mentioned earlier above, this printer was bought second hand, so no support.

1372565 2014-04-14 02:54:00 With the current low cost of printers I do not think it is practical to persist with it for much longer. You have downloaded and read the setup manual for the printer? Can you set the printers ip as already suggested but on the printer itself rather than from the PC (you can on my HP one). You have set the network on the PC to allow the discovery of networked devices? If so you should be able to ping it with it connected directly to the PC. CliveM (6007)

Its not you run of the mill cheapy desktop printer ....

This is where it gets tricky to track down the issue.

some suggestions :
Do you have a laptop or another pc you can try
Try another STATIC IP adress on the printer , there may be a conflict
Try another router , replace ALL the cables
Put a static IP on the PC & then connect direct to the printer & see if you can then ping or access it via IE.
Does it have a old style printer port or USB port you could use ?
Try another Network card on the PC, or new network drivers
Disable Power save on the Network card, via device manager.
Uninstall any 3rd party Firewall software on the PC (Uninstall, NOT just disable)

And 1101's comment.

I have now. I should have looked before making that observation.
