| 1372544 | 2014-04-12 04:37:00 | Hi All I would like to download the 8.1 update(still on 8.0). Is there a possibility to download an ISO? Still got some ISP data(GB) tonight so it would be good to download and install later when I'm ready. Thanks |

While it is the download, Heres How to actually do it (www.cnet.com) BUT why wait -- ?? just download and install it from the store, run the updates, which will make it into 8.1.1 which is a lot better than 8 or 8.1 You cant also do a fresh install with a W8 Key (Officially) on the 8.1 ISO, BUT with a bit of fiddling about, its do- able. |

| 1372547 | 2014-04-17 22:18:00 | Speedy and WT, thanks. I have done the download through the store and sadly my main software spit the dummy due to the licence. So I used an image backup done just beforehand to get back to 8. I am considering trying dual boot 8 and 8.1 and if the existing program license works, remove 8. Or a fresh install as you suggested WT. |

| 1372548 | 2014-04-17 23:23:00 | If you want to do a fresh install its easy enough, just use a generic key to install 8.1, then change and activate with the W8 key. The Windows 8.1 installer from the ISO does not accept Windows 8 keys. You need to install the system with a generic key (334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT for Core, XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB for Professional) and then enter your Windows 8 key after installing. NOTE: those keys are the default Client KMS W8.1 keys for installing,you cant activate them. If for some reason it doesn't work theres a reg alteration you can do that allows it. |

| 1372549 | 2014-04-18 19:51:00 | WT I assume that I should update W 8 at some stage so I'll have a search to see if I can dual boot 8 and 8.1 as mentioned above. In the meantime I have discovered that the recovery partition is empty. Not sure why as I haven't deleted its contents??? |

Depending on how you are looking at it, Eg: either by the OS or by third party partition software, you'll generally find it is there, just hidden on purpose with no drive letter,its the way the OEMS do it, thats so you cant delete it. Some months ago I had backed up the partition and had forgotten it, so I had the restore files on a backup drive. |
