1371995 2014-04-05 04:52:00 I have a 2tb HHD that stores movies and in another partition has WIN7. A second 300g HDD has WIN8.1. WIN8.1 is now my OS of choice, it's quite rare for me to go to the 2tb.

As the 2tb is not often used/accessed by me, I am wondering the pros and cons about leaving or disconnecting that drive, any thoughts?

Or, should I backup and remove WIN7 from the 2tb and copy across the WIN8.1, maybe put WIN7 on the 300g.

1371996 2014-04-05 05:48:00 Use disk manager and see which drives are marked as system and active, it's possible your windows 8 boot files have ended up on the 2TB depending on how you installed it. Not a major but something you need to know before making any changes.
As to whether to leave it in or not, entirely up to you.

One thing you can do with 2 drives is set windows up to automatically backup your C: drive once a week to the other drive. Not as good as an external backup but it will give you very good protection from drive failure/corruption/infections.
Control Panel\System and Security\File History System Image Backup is hiding on the bottom left corner. Or you could use another program like Active@ Not sure how to schedule it now that they've removed the older version that carried over from 7 to 8.

But otherwise I'd keep whichever is the fastest as my C: drive and do whatever you want with the other. I have a 256GB SSD as my C: and a 1TB Hdd as my D: for data and storage.

1371997 2014-04-06 21:07:00 I guess what I really want to know is does the unused HDD slow the system down?

Does the unused HDD just sit there quietly in limbo and therefore is not a drain on the system or itself?

1371998 2014-04-06 21:52:00 Doesn't hurt anything, might wear it out a bit faster in theory but you could always set power management to shut down your hard drives after however many minutes to minimise the wear if that bothers you (I wouldn't worry really). dugimodo (138)
