1371539 2014-03-29 17:15:00 Just wish to experiment:

1. If I wish to add another PCI sound card to my Win7 PC with on-board sound, will this configuration work?

2. Will this new device(sound-card) cause any conflicts with the on-board sound?

3. What do I need to do in order to get both the devices work together hand in hand?

Thanks.

1371540 2014-03-29 19:33:00 MS say you can't. It's by design (answers.microsoft.com). However others say you can with this (software.muzychenko.net)

But it's not free

1371541 2014-03-29 20:09:00 According to here (social.technet.microsoft.com)

It seems to be OK.

Unfortunately I don't have a sound card to try out.

1371542 2014-03-29 20:17:00 Looks like that'll only let you select one or the other. Not use both at the same time Speedy Gonzales (78)
1371543 2014-03-29 21:36:00 When you say work together what do you mean? Output the same audio at the same time? In which case I ask why not just use a splitter cable on the output of one card?

If you mean both function at the same time with separate audio streams on each then I don't see why not, if the software you are running supports selecting different outputs you can choose which card you want to use for each software...

1371544 2014-03-29 21:56:00 Maybe I'm a bit slow this morning but I cannot think of any reason I would wish to listen to two seperate audio streams at the same time. CliveM (6007)
1371545 2014-03-29 23:27:00 Just for experimenting sake:

I would like to be able to have to mic inputs (one from each card) and two pairs of speakers connect to the each of the cards so that I can have different source of sounds from the two mics.

1371546 2014-03-30 00:02:00 Or, is it possible to have 2 mics plug in to the same sound card and split the output to the left & right speakers?

The above configuration will only need one sound card.

1371547 2014-03-30 00:15:00 You could do that using the stereo line-in jack and connect a mic to each channel but most likely you would also need a mic preamp to get the correct signal level as the line-in does not have one and the mic jack is only one channel. Agent_24 (57)
1371548 2014-03-30 21:08:00 Win can have 2 different mic sources & 2 different audio outputs
For eg : Skype setup will let you choose which mic source & what output device , so it does work

Whatever software you use will need to have the option to choice what device you use.
