| 1354119 | 2013-09-23 05:49:00 | Hi all for a change I'm calling for help to the lawn wizards. I have resown the lawn 2 years ago and used seed which the merchant recommended. If I remember right it was 'brown top' seed and possibly a mix. Anyway after a rather big effort I am disappointed as it looks shabby with a lot of dead grass amongst it. It is certainly not dry and I have fertilized(bought from merchants). Just outside of the gate I just spread some rye grass seed to cover some ground which had been dug over. No effort made- result; nice and green. 5206 Is it possible for someone to give me some idea except redoing it all over again?? Thanks :-) |

Different types suit different areas.....for instance Kikuyu won't grow down South, the soft, fluffy stuff they had down there can't handle Auckland summers.... So, if you care - and lawns, who cares really, they grow weeds eventually - Feed it, water it...fuss over it. You like the Rye, throw some more of that on to it.. |

| 1354122 | 2013-09-23 10:34:00 | no I haven't noticed. I also think it is unlikely to have grass grub as it has limited topsoil on top of a granite based subsoil. we also made an effort with fertiliser. should I just broadcast rye grass over it? |

Hire a machine to groove your lawn, top dress it and lightly seed with one of the newer dwarf rye mixes. when watering good deep watering once every 10 days or two weeks. Dont cut you lawn too low. | Arnie (6624) | ||

I have Kikuyu so it's self-managing. Just need to get SWMBO to give it a bit of a trim with the mower every few weeks... :D |
