Noticed our o/s debt to be $190 billion, is this where all our mone to build power stations etc. came from, o/s debt, if so, this is what the float should be paying back into. We really are a third world country with a debt like that. Lurking. |

Same as for MRP $3,000.00 and hopefully the same for the rest. Our son has the rest of our share investments, had to put them out of the reach of WINZ to get the most out of under age wife's super, which wasn't a great deal less anyway, just the inconvience of completing an annual return of income. Hope this is not picked up by the "spy agency". The O/S debt more than likely paid for all NZ assets anyway. Lurking. |

| 1354011 | 2013-09-23 09:37:00 | I'm no expert. Mighty River looked odd to me because they will borrow money in the next two years to pay dividends. Now, accountants will explain this is perfectly valid but to me it looked risky and plain silly. Plus MRP seemed to be expensive. Meridian on the other hand looks cheap. In fact it is an incredibly good deal - pay only 60% of the price but get the dividends, which are a 13% return. However the share price may drop as dividends are paid. Who knows. Electricity companies are solid safe boring investments. The variables are rainfall and government intervention. The problem for any government though is no matter how much they intervene, they cannot generate more power. In fact intervention persuades power companies to hunker down and do nothing new. |

| 1354013 | 2013-09-23 23:23:00 | You will have to declare any dividends for tax, as it is income. So yes, a tax return will be required. | Richard (739) | ||
