1353666 2013-09-17 00:56:00 Hi all, I'm trying to track down some of these parts. I'm not 100% sure what they're called but they're a small 'C' shape and springy like fuse holders.

They're maybe 1-1.5mm wide and slide onto about the same 1-1.5mm thickness and are being used to connect to a small LCD panel (as a replacement to the original ribbon cable) thing is the LCD doesn't have contact points that appear to be solder-able.

They look like this: i.imgur.com
And are doing this: i.imgur.com

Would love to figure out what these are and where to get them, any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance!

1353668 2013-09-17 01:09:00 The one picture is out of a car (think AC info display) but I've seen the same sort of contact-less(?) LCDs used in calculators, toys, etc.. Pretty much the LCD is glass, and along the edge where the ribbon cable used to make contact you can see a slight variation in the surface which is obviously something conductive but I believe I would be unable to solder to.. Hence these spring-clip-things. l0gic (6781)
1353669 2013-09-17 02:32:00 I don't know for sure, probably something like LCD edge spring contacts.

Unlikely to find them for sale since it's unlikely anyone would normally need them.

I'm not sure this is their intended use as they're being used instead of the ribbon cable that is supposed to be used. I was hoping they might be something more common that someone remembers seeing from an electronics website/catalog.

I was thinking something like this: www.newark.com
Those are PCB mount fuse holders, but they're for a 5mm fuse which is too big in this case, and I cannot find a smaller version.

I've searched everything I can think of, spring clamps, spring connector, spring terminal, clip, etc.. Maybe the 'spring' part is throwing me off I'm not sure. :/

1353671 2013-09-17 03:58:00 After thinking, they do look a bit similar to the contacts out of low-cost 'dual wipe' IC sockets, but those are asymmetrical, typically.

Your first photo doesn't show the contact well though, so I can't tell how similar or different they are.

1353672 2013-09-17 04:58:00 I think I found something close enough to work: www.tech-etch.com

I just need to sort out the measurements/sizing and give it a try I guess.. And try to find some of those ^ locally.

/fingers crossed
