| 1353512 | 2013-09-13 02:07:00 | 50,000 New Zealanders set to benefit from lower power pricesNZ - 10am, September 12, 2013: At last a win for the elderly in the highly competitive electricity retail market through the formation of Grey Power Electricity. Grey Power Federation Inc. and Pulse Energy have been working together to build this new partnership for a number of months, which will give Grey Power members access to low cost power, easy-to-read bills, and a friendly New Zealand based call centre dedicated to serving Grey Power customers. Read here (www.scoop.co.nz) I turned 65 a few days ago and after getting higher than normal power winter bills I am certainly looking at ways of reducing my power bills. I have made a move to get heat pumps and insulation installed. I see that the Southland Warm Homes Trust is offering free insulation to old geezers over the age of 65. The chairman of Grey Power's advisory group on energy, Allen Davies, said estimates showed average expected savings of 11 per cent, but that was highly variable. Read here. (www.stuff.co.nz) |

| 1353514 | 2013-09-26 09:57:00 | You wait until The Lines Company charges are implemented across the country rather than being an experiment in the waikato. Dont matter who your electricity supplier is the Lines bill will screw the hell out of you. | coldfront (15814) | ||
| 1353515 | 2013-09-27 11:23:00 | Went to Greypower meeting yesterday and a guy spoke to us about smart meters. Apparently not a good idea, as having one installed can actually raise power bills. Pulse Energy use them and also they do not offer a prompt payment discount. No brainer to me, I will stick with Nova and refuse any smart meter that they or anyone throws at me! Cheers, LL |

They don't RAISE what power you use - they may report it more accurately than the old ones - which is why you can sometimes see an increase in your bill. We have one here - it was here when we came - Genesis didn't read the meter - they went off it's report....but Energy ONline read it - apparently they don't have the software at their end to automatically get the readings....LOL. Anyway, it doesn't vary at all.....so pretty accurate I'd say. |

Cheers, LL You wont be able to refuse! These meters are being changed across the country over the next couple years. If you look on your current meter it has a certification date many are expiring so they are replacing meters with these. Also these smart meters can read the power load! This is where your going to be stung in the future not by how much you use but what time of day you are using the most. Do some research on The Lines Company of Te Kuiti who control the King Country Region our supplier Meridian is 17.15c per unit sounds good eh? Not when you have lines bills that vary between $40 and $120 or worse fixed per month set by you having power sucking applainaces on at the wrong time. |
