1353442 2013-09-12 12:58:00 Hey
I've got a 32" Veon tv, it's got UHF ( I think) built in...unfortunately we don't have UHF coverage so need a satellite dish. Is there any good alternatives to having a dish? would something like this be worth a try?
Endeavour Ultra Flat Digital TV Antenna www.noelleeming.co.nz

If i had that, would i still need a freeview box??

Thanks heaps :)

1353443 2013-09-12 13:03:00 Thats for UHF tho so you wont get anything with it. If the TV has FV on it then no you wouldnt need a separate box. Unless you brought a satellite receiver. But, there's no point having this if you dont have a dish Speedy Gonzales (78)
1353444 2013-09-12 13:17:00 Oh that's a bugger, thanks Speedy
Would there be anything I could do to have digital but not have a dish?? are there other indoor ones that would support what i need?

1353445 2013-09-12 13:32:00 Move somewhere else lol where you'll get reception. Not much else you can do. You'll have to buy a satellite receiver and a dish, if you want to watch FV. Where in NZ are you?? You sure you cant get it? Is there an aerial on the roof? Speedy Gonzales (78)

1353447 2013-09-12 21:30:00 Are you sure you can't get UHF reception? If you can't get UHF coverage, you need a satellite dish. How do you expect anything to work if you have no coverage? inphinity (7274)
1353448 2013-09-13 00:34:00 You can check UHF coverage here: www.freeviewnz.tv Terry Porritt (14)
1353449 2013-09-13 00:54:00 You can check UHF coverage here: www.freeviewnz.tv

That site still hasn't updated since the last round of upgrades, so you can't fully trust it.
OP - post your address and we'll have a look for you.

1353450 2013-09-13 01:33:00 Use TVNZ OnDemand etc and don't worry about live TV??
Otherwise yes you will need a dish and a satellite set top box if you have no UHF signal in your area.

1353451 2013-09-13 07:27:00 there is nothing you can use indoors or to replace a dish.
the sat signal is very high frequency and the signal dosn't go through walls/roofs etc. its also extremely directional, takes very little to bump it off and get no signal.
you don't have to mount it to the roof but it needs to be solidly mounted and in an unobstructed line of sight to the satellite.. used to get plenty of rip off sky techs that tacked the dishes onto houses and did damage to homes when they came loose.
don't forget dish size varies depending on where you live.

if your renting see if you can get the landlord to pay for it, as its better to leave it on the house when you move out.
