The old saying a picture is worth a thousand words, so it must be quicker to look than read :p lol Darn, lots of pretty pics are always better than screens full of words so you win. :p |

| 1372224 | 2014-04-11 05:02:00 | Problem is, it needs a Professional like Wainuitech 45 minutes to set it up ... what about an ordinary end user? Most likely he/she will never be able to use it! That's why so many people hate it. A good end user product should be able to be used by the end user the moment it is taken out of the box- not to take it to a professional (which he/she has to pay) just to 'set it up' before he/she can actually use it! I have used Win8 for a while and find it quite OK; of course, like wainuitech always says, it has to be set up first, and in my case, I 'set it up' a bit at a time just to make it the way I wanted it to be. Unlike other older versions of Windows, the moment it is installed, it could be used straight away - very little (re)-configuration is necessary. I agree with that for people who have used older versions of Windows. For people who have never owned or used a computer before (there are some!!) it is not so hard for them as they are not having to relearn new tricks. I tutor a person who has Win8 for his first PC and it was I who had learn how to do things so that I could show him. He easily picked up whatever I showed him. For everyone else who has used older versions of Windows it has been far more difficult and that is where Microsoft went wrong. From what I have read about its features the latest update should go someway towards fixing that. This is confirmed by the comments from a couple of people in this thread. |

| 1372225 | 2014-04-11 05:43:00 | The "OLD" style start menu is making a return to a certain degree, but its also going to have a few changes - When - Only MS knows :) techreport.com Really with the exception of the start menu / tiles, windows 8.1 IS Windows 7. Later I'll write out the main "secrets to setting up" that I use, when you read it you'll see its Basically the Same as a New Windows 7 PC. If a person can set up a NEW W7 they can setup W8.1, theres no real "trickery" to it. ;) |

| 1372226 | 2014-04-15 05:34:00 | I prefer Win 8 over 7. I miss the improved task manager and file transfer window when using 7 at work. Not to mention all the other things underneath such as fast boot/resume and wifi reconnection. | utopian201 (6245) | ||
