1372212 2014-04-10 10:07:00 I installed Windows 8.1 Enterprise to check it out...Promised myself that I would give it a fair go and do the full 90 days... Well Yeah...Nah! not for me.It lasted almost 24 hours before it was deleted and the computer put back to 'Normal'. I just can not handle it...even with the changes it is not for me.Hope Windows 9 tastes better. Thats the problem, saying you're going to give it 90 days and didn't even last 2 days before quitting :groan:

Most of the problems actually happen to people who do a little more than general usage, meaning fiddle with settings etc and no one to teach them, or stuck in their ways of doing things & have already written it off as to hard even before giving it a chance.

To quote chill from an earlier post: #6 "I'd now happily recommend 8.1 Update 1 over Windows 7."

I was at a guys place yesterday (just up the road from where I live) upgraded from XP to 8.1.1. He told me up front he had heard so many bad things about it and was worried he wouldn't be able to use it.

I made a deal with him last week, said if by the time I left he wasn't happy and be able to use it and feel comfortable by three days I'd take it back and put W7 on it for free, the only exception was no pre judging.

When it went back with W8.1.1, I spent roughly 45 minutes setting it up to how he liked so he could do the things he wanted, and gave a few quick lessons.

After that 45 minutes he got out the cash - paid me and said whats the F****Ken fuss about ?, its child's play to learn, absolutely Brilliant compared to XP. He then said as soon as I leave, its time to experiment. ;)

I called him back this evening to check on him and how he got on -- he said that he was up till early this morning having a great time with all the new and good features he's finding. Anything he got stuck on he did a google search and was away laughing again (thought it may be a bit to late to call me at 1 am :illogical - ya think ). I asked if he wanted W7 ? His reply -- F***K off - you're safe with your deal.

+1 That sums it up pretty well for me.

1372214 2014-04-10 10:47:00 Teaching someone isn't to hard, BUT its something that cant be put in writing, everyone is different with different ways of looking at /doing things.

What I try to do is narrow it down to what the person needs to be taught /shown and you can only do that by observing and helping where required, some need more instruction than others in different areas, its a person by person teaching, but getting to the same result in the end.

yep, sometimes it feels like that :D

Most of the time the easiest people to teach are Adults in 40+ age group. Some people I thought would be a bit harder ended up being the easiest (60 -80's age group) Younger people who have grown up with such device, iPads, Tablets, touch phones etc pick it up really fast and generally on their own.

1372218 2014-04-10 21:45:00 ... I spent roughly 45 minutes setting it up ...

Problem is, it needs a Professional like Wainuitech 45 minutes to set it up ... what about an ordinary end user? Most likely he/she will never be able to use it! That's why so many people hate it.

A good end user product should be able to be used by the end user the moment it is taken out of the box- not to take it to a professional (which he/she has to pay) just to 'set it up' before he/she can actually use it!

I have used Win8 for a while and find it quite OK; of course, like wainuitech always says, it has to be set up first, and in my case, I 'set it up' a bit at a time just to make it the way I wanted it to be. Unlike other older versions of Windows, the moment it is installed, it could be used straight away - very little (re)-configuration is necessary.

Other than some hardware/software (older) compatibility issues, Win 8 is OK; but I still don't like to install Win8 (did it on friends PCs a couple of times -too many user input required), Win7's installation is a breeze - love it.

Win8 is also slightly faster than Win7.

1372219 2014-04-10 23:35:00 The problem is that not everybody likes onion and tripe...Windows 8 is like being drunk in a maze,it is neither one thing or another. It is not popular for a reason.I personally like new software and although I do not have the experience of some of you, I am not a complete novice, in my opinion this is not a desk top friendly piece of work and Microsoft can and will do better. It seems like every second OS is ok.Roll out Windows 9 asap! ruup (1827)
1372220 2014-04-10 23:52:00 This update has finally got me to 'accept' Win8 too - not on my person computers (Yet) but I'm much more happy to recommend it now. It just feels like they've removed the disconnect between the app interface and the traditional desktop interface. It's a hell of a lot better. wratterus (105)

same guy using a Mac for the 1st time.

Its as if MS are trying to loose customers to Mac. If they try MAC , they will never go back to Win (I'm not a Mac fan btw) .
