HUsband says that too...how is his ute less safe than the equivalent one in petrol? Try reading the rest of the post I also took that into account. You cut that little bit out but missed the rest of the paragraph which is this "So if the diesel is doing more than 294kms per week its actually cheaper to run!" |

Just a way for the Government to screw people knowing that they have no choice but pay. We have a Mazda Bounty truck for sporting things we do. Can't use a Honda Civic for that .. |

| 1353918 | 2013-09-29 21:38:00 | I asked this question of the AA to explain why the Diesels pay more ACC than Petrols. They wrote this "The difference is because petrol vehicles pay part of their ACC levies through fuel tax at the pump while diesels pay their entire ACC levy in one lump sum as part of the annual licence fee." When you do the maths it still dont add up with 9.9c being the ACC levy at the pump in effect you would need to use 1313 litres Diesel per year to be on a par with a petrol. So in the case of my own diesel doing over 21,000kms per year. Which made my figures of 294 km per week look even worse!!! That line Tend to do a higher mileage, more chance of accidents. Is so very flawed to the private motorist and is not actually true its because of the lack of ACC levy at the pumps. Stupid brain wave came across to me if they can not take the levy from the pump why not add it to RUCs or have a seperate sticker so the exemptions from ACC on fuel can be applied. Just seems so complicvcated the whole way Diesel fuel is taxed/levied. Btw, Its not just Diesel higher its all non petrol driven vehicles including LPG , CNG and even home made Bio-Fuel. They also provided this link www.acc.co.nz explaining the proposals. |

| 1353920 | 2013-09-30 06:41:00 | www.3news.co.nz I was aware of that as far back as 2006 when I decided that repairing our 8 seater diesel van was not worth the additional ACC payment on the rego. I still ended up buying a diesel car...lol |
