1354434 2013-09-27 00:38:00 I wonder what Vodafone/2D will respond with - they have no similar infrastructure...

1354435 2013-09-27 01:10:00 Really their best response is to reduce mobile data costs significantly enough that their customers won't want to spend $10/month for Telecom Wifi. Whether that will happen, who knows. Neither have the infrastructure to implement anything like this in the forseeable future. VF will bank on their 4G network to balance it. inphinity (7274)

Telecom's customers don't need to pay for their wifi. Only non-customers do. ;)

Yes, hence what Vodafone/2D will need to do to respond is to reduce their mobile data costs significantly enough that their customers won't choose to pay a competitor, Telecom, for wifi access...

1354439 2013-09-27 05:15:00 Wait, what? There are still phone booths? MushHead (10626)
1354440 2013-09-27 05:18:00 There was one down on the Peninsula, worked real good for a while... Then some bastard ran off with it.

I'd pay $10 a month for their use, though for 1GB seems a little expensive still.

1354441 2013-09-27 05:24:00 Don't really worry about "public" wifi that much nowadays - I find I'll have a bit of difficulty using up my 500MB phone data allowance (part of my $19/month 2d prepay) these days - I leave wifi for just home & work in the main.

Bit of a snarky/sarcastic comment about phone boxes, but I honestly can't remember when I last noticed one...

It's 1GB per day, though, not per month.

1354443 2013-09-27 10:43:00 Tried one last weekend in Balmoral, the connection raced along like a snail in treacle. I gave up before it got to the money bit, it might have taken longer to read the PF1 index page than to paint the Harbour Bridge. Never mind WiFi, semaphore would be quicker. (Distance from the phone booth was about 6M, through plate glass.) If the connect time is any indication, it might take all year to get your 1GB. R2x1 (4628)
