1354092 2013-09-23 04:10:00 I'm really getting peeved with MedicAlert NZ.

* It's expensive

* There website constantly begs for more cash, even while you are enrolling.

* The jewelry is outrageously over-priced, and while it is stamped, there's no ink (silver on silver printing)

* the card you receive is a low quality fold-over paper sticker

* They almost never answer their phone during business hours

* They never follow up. When you follow up, they make promises they don't fulfill.

* The process to enroll is overly complex (subscribe, take forms to GP, have GP fill out forms, submit form, get another form, scan and mail back second form.

And now the website where you maintain your details is down.

What would happen if I were in an accident, and someone actually needed to get to my medical records?

:yuck:

1354093 2013-09-23 04:16:00 Unless demonstrably shown otherwise, I have little or no faith in these medic-alarm people, at least judging by the endless zillion telemarketing calls one gets as a pensioner. Terry Porritt (14)
1354094 2013-09-23 06:19:00 This has been discussed already.

All you need is any type of bangle, bracelet, whatever you like with your NHI number and condition engraved on it.

Husband changed to a velcro nylon band with metal tag on it, which they engraved for him.

It's been used a few times since then by ambulance........way cheaper, lasting longer than the original. No forms needed....all the ambulance guys need is that info anyway......

I have been with them for five years but with my latest bill increase have now decided that enough is enough. I don't actually need them to be called anyway, just medics to read the message on the emblem. And yes, I even toyed with having a tattoo put on my wrist but dislike tramp stamps.

With NZ health records now being available online (www.stuff.co.nz) MedicAlert might actually become obsolete, providing you can be identified when required.

It's a misconception that all tattoos on woman are tramp stamps, tramp stamp is reserved for the lower back.

1354098 2013-09-24 02:17:00 I feel a bit ripped off. I found this company

www.ice-id.co.nz

Half the price in the first year, and no yearly subscription

1354099 2013-09-24 04:33:00 You don't need to sign up to anything. The point is to display your condition.
Adding your NHI means the docs/paramedics can look you up.....the condition on it means they know straight away....
