| 279661 | 2004-10-11 09:21:00 | Windows 1 and 2 are DOS programs. Windows 3 is a 16-bit Windows that runs on DOS. Windows 9x and ME are also DOS based, but 32-bit. MS tries to hide DOS in Windows ME but it is there. Windows NT, 2000, and XP are NOT in any way DOS based, but can run DOS programs in CMD.EXE, the command line program. It can also emulate 16-bit DOS for DOS games etc. You can also run COMMAND.COM which is DOS itself, 16-bit. You can multiboot NT/2000/XP and DOS as well. George |
