2004-10-11 07:54:00 | Hello PF1'ers and AVG experts, I have recently installed the latest free (beta) AVG 7. In the previous AVG 6 version I could point my download manager to the file AVGSE.exe, which I presume refers to the shell extension, and when a download was complete AVG would automatically scan the file. AVGSE does not appear in the later version and I am at a loss as to which executable will invoke the scan on completion of download. Can anyone help me with this please? JonB

Neither have a GUI from the command line scan, but both will scan your files just fine. My proference for this is avgscan.exe, because it is a much smaller program than avg.exe and therefore loads much faster. | Bletch (244) | ||
2004-10-11 10:50:00 | Hi JonB. Are you sure it downloaded and installed correctly. Reason for asking is that I too have the beta7 running on an old Win98 system. During installation it placed a shortcut on the desktop and opens to show a full Test Centre Window offering direct access to Complete Test, Test Targets, Update, etc. In fact, it looks remarkably like the commercial 7 that I have run on my XP Pro system for some time. | Scouse (83) | |

2004-10-12 04:12:00 | Hi all, I have the right-click option ok. The previous version had an executable that you could point, say Fresh Download to, and when the download was finished it would automatically scan the downloaded file and then pop-up a small dialog to say OK (or not). The avg file was called AVGSE.exe When the right click option is used the dialog message is Shell Extension Test when the download is checked. What I would like to know is how to invoke this test from Fresh Download. Thanks for your interest so far. JonB

2004-10-12 06:43:00 | Hey JonB, I have already answered this question in my first post (if I understand you right). As neither of the programs have a GUI when run this way, consider using a batch file like the one I have written below. (to make a batch file, use a normal text editor like notepad and save the file as "filename.bat"). When you are done making the file, point Fresh Download at the batch file instead of the exe itself. Here is the batch file: @echo off "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgscan.exe" "%1" pause cls 1)@echo off gets rid of unwanted feedback 2)this line scans the file 3)pause makes sure the window dows not close until you are finished with it 4)cls clears and closes the command window Hope this helps

2005-05-19 13:57:00 | I had the same problem and went to the AVG Forums and found the answer! As follows: Within the 3rd party program scanning options choose AVGW.EXE with /SE parameter (AVGW.EXE /SE) as internal antivirus scanner. AVGW.EXE file is located in the AVG directory usually C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7 directory on your hard drive. HTH :D
