280051 2004-10-11 06:20:00 System: XP Home, disk formatted in NTFS, one volume.

I have been initiating CHKDSK from the C: drive properties Tools tab,
Error checking, automatically fix errors.

The errors either don't go away, or reappear.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to what is failing or going wrong

Messages from CHKDSK (which runs when system boots to gain access to the disk)

Correcting error in index ...
Recovering orphaned file ... (many times)
Unable to read the security descriptor data stream.
Deleting corrupt attribute record.

CHKDKS appears to run itself twice to get rid of all the errors before it allows windows to boot.

Does sound unusual, especially with NTFS . I would suspect the Hard drive itself could be failing . Just a guess though .

First off though, ensure your Antivirus is up-to-date and do a scan . Follow up with an anti-spyware program like Spybot s&d ( . majorgeeks . com/download2471 . html" target="_blank">www . majorgeeks . com) and Adaware ( . majorgeeks . com/download . php?det=506" target="_blank">www . majorgeeks . com) after updating them first . This would eliminate most "outside forces" from causing the problem .

Maybe it would pay to backup anything you cannot lose first though, just in case something untoward happens .

Failing that, replace the hard drive
